The French of the welding workshop.
A welder who cannot understand an instruction in the noise, a setting or a safety rule cannot work alone. Since 2023, we have been preparing welders, boilermakers and pipe fitters of foreign origin for Chantiers de l'Atlantique and its co-contractors, IWF, Allia and Bouard, notably with Manpower: from sourcing to the first day on the job.
What trainees can do in French.
The programme follows the workshop day, from arrival in the morning to inspecting the part. At the end of the training, trainees can:
- find their way in the workshop: hours, shifts, changing rooms, breaks;
- ask for an instruction to be repeated or rephrased in the noise;
- put on their PPE and apply safety rules (fumes, spatter, fire);
- ask what is expected: metal, process, dimensions, drawing;
- ask for the consumables they need: wire, electrodes, filler rods, gas;
- set up their welding machine;
- improve their technique with their tutor's advice;
- have a weld approved or report a defect to the team leader.
The vocabulary is adapted to your processes and parts: steel structures, piping, boilermaking or shipbuilding.

Sourcing and interviews
We find candidates, directly or with an employment agency, and organise interviews. Every candidate takes a French placement test.

How to fund a training course?
Depending on your situation:
- France Travail's POEI: it covers the training of jobseekers you hire at the end of the programme;
- professionalisation contract: work-study, for example towards a CQPM welder qualification;
- OPCO: for your employees, under the skills development plan (OPCO 2i for industry, AKTO for temporary work);
- direct funding: on quotation, from 3 learners.

What level of French do you need to work as a welder?
At the end of the training we aim for a level between A2 and B1, and above all mastery of the job's essential situations: understanding instructions in the noise, applying safety rules, understanding what is expected on the part and reporting a defect. The target is set from each candidate's placement test.
How long does the training last?
About 350 hours on average, on site. The duration is adjusted to the candidates' entry level and your project's schedule.
Which welding processes are covered?
All of them: TIG, MIG/MAG, stick and gas welding. Vocabulary and situations are adapted to your processes, parts and documents.
Is the training also for boilermakers and pipe fitters?
Yes. Our materials cover welding, boilermaking and pipe fitting, and we adapt the programme to the target job.
Who pays for the training?
Depending on the situation: France Travail's POEI, the professionalisation contract, the OPCO (AKTO, OPCO 2i…) or direct funding from 3 learners. Jobs Around is Qualiopi certified.
Where does the training take place?
Anywhere in mainland France, at or near your site. We already train welders in Loire-Atlantique and Île-de-France.
