French, the first obstacle to hiring.
The aerospace industry is short of fitters. Many foreign candidates have the manual skills and industrial experience, but not yet the French needed to follow technical training, read an assembly instruction sheet or understand a safety rule.
Since 2023, we have been preparing these candidates with Synergie for Airbus, Daher and FAMAT in Saint-Nazaire: from sourcing to the first day on the job, with a French for Specific Purposes (FOS) programme built around real production situations.
What trainees can do in French.
The programme starts from the tasks of the job, not from a general French textbook. At the end of the training, trainees can:
- handle everyday work situations: starting a shift, talking with the team and the team leader, absences and lateness, incidents, shift handover;
- understand and use fitting and assembly vocabulary: tools, fasteners, basic parts, drilling, riveting, routine operations;
- read a simple manufacturing routing or operating procedure and restate its steps;
- fill in the job's paperwork: follow-up sheet, self-inspection, non-conformity report, short message to management;
- understand and apply written and spoken safety instructions;
- report orally on an operation, ask for clarification, talk with a tutor or a technical trainer.
Levels are measured on entry (CEFR placement), at the end of the course by the trainers, then by the TEF IRN, taken in an official session at our accredited exam centre.

Sourcing and interviews
We find candidates, directly or with an employment agency, and organise interviews. Every candidate takes a French placement test.
POEI: intensive French
About 350 hours on average, on site: job-specific French, reading production documents, safety, workplace writing.

Support during technical training and at the start of the assignment, safety modules, tutor awareness sessions. CDII and permanent hires.
Results of the 2026 POEI.
18 trainees took part in the 2026 Synergie POEI for Airbus and its co-contractors in Saint-Nazaire. Almost all of them gained at least one CEFR level, certified by the TEF IRN:
- 1 trainee at B2 level;
- 3 trainees at B1+ level;
- 7 trainees at B1 level;
- 7 trainees at A2+ level.
Above all, they can communicate in French in the key production situations:
- understanding and applying safety instructions;
- following a quality procedure and instructions to fit or assemble a part;
- taking part in the start-of-shift meeting;
- asking for help or reporting an equipment breakdown;
- reacting and raising the alarm in case of an accident or injury;
- reviewing the shift and handing over to the next team.

- "Communicating at work": 34 industrial work situations, with a chapter dedicated to the aerospace industry;

How to fund a training course?
Depending on your situation:
- France Travail's POEI: it covers the training of jobseekers you hire at the end of the programme;
- OPCO: for your employees, under the skills development plan (OPCO 2i for industry, AKTO for temporary work);
- direct funding: on quotation, from 3 learners.

What level of French do you need to work as an aerospace fitter?
There is no official level, but you need to follow technical training, understand safety instructions and talk with the team. We set the target after a placement test: usually A2+ for a beginner, B1+ for someone who already has a foundation. Speaking is the most important criterion for fitting in on the production line.
How long does the training last?
In a POEI, about 350 hours on average, full time.
Do trainees get a certificate?
Yes: they take the TEF IRN (Le français des affaires, CCI Paris Île-de-France), which certifies their CEFR level in each skill. Jobs Around is an accredited TEF exam centre in Nantes.
Who pays for the training?
For jobseekers: France Travail's POEI. For your employees: your sector's OPCO (OPCO 2i, AKTO…), through the skills development plan. Direct funding is also possible from 3 learners.
Where does the training take place?
Anywhere in mainland France: at or near your site, as in Saint-Nazaire (Montoir-de-Bretagne) since 2023.
Do you also handle recruitment?
Yes. Directly or with a partner employment agency, we find candidates, organise interviews and assess their French before the training starts, then support them until they start the job.
